Close to Lough Corrib, and standing on what is virtually a rocky island, Aughnanure Castle, built by the O’Flahertys c.1500 is a particularly well-preserved example of an Irish tower house that retains elements of a banqueting hall, a watch tower, an unusual double bawn, bastions and a dry harbour.
Dr Rory Sherlock MIAI talk at Aughnanure on the 21st October
Open on a ‘First Come’ basis.
