Ageing fabric that once defined townspeople's cultural memories is now commonly neglected, falling into disrepair. Beyond its physical manifestation our sense of place, identity and hometown pride becomes eroded. Vacancy and dereliction holds a grip over our country, inexcusable in an economy crippled by a lack of habitable space. A grassroots solution is needed now to allow regenerative communities to flourish and rekindle a sense of belonging. Tuam, a microcosm representative of this wider issue, detrimental to much of Galway - Mayo, will host this 2 day co-design workshop in which we will investigate the intangible and tangible effects on the local community of dereliction and vacancy.
Led by Niall OCleirigh & Jonny Greig, they will facilitate a community focused collaboration. In a curated collective journey of immersive experiences and open discourse; we hope to harness tangile observation and the intangible power of memory to evoke stories of old to imagine future narratives.
Day 1 - on-site (Tuam Town centre) live investigation and research
Day 2 - analysis of investigation and generation of future narrative
Participants can join on both or either days.
