Most boundaries have been set up by men, as a matter of order and control— witnessed more than ever during this pandemic conditions. These can be disrupted by choice, uprisings or changes in political conditions. Human-made boundaries are as influential to our daily living as they are abstract; and thus hazy and fragile. In contrast, natural boundaries are resilient. They affect ‘Life’ beyond human social and physical structures and are substantial enough to determine climatic conditions.

In the West of Ireland, human reach is bordered by the sea. Only 20 out of the 80 Irish islands are inhabited. The population in Irish islands keeps on decreasing, dissolving ancient cultures and communities, and leaving behind new human ruins.

The island of Inishbiggle is separated from Achill Island, and the mainland, by the Bullsmouth Channel with less than a hand-full of inhabitants. A proposal to break the water frontier with a cable-car was never realised.

This project will reenact the pretended merging of the islands by connecting a ‘cable’ (a slack-line) between them. The infrastructure will be set up for one day only ‘allowing adventurers to walk’ from one island to the other.

This project will link the islands, not only by a physical mean but as an interactive bonding activity between citizens from both ends, vanishing the boundary between them for at least one day.
